Friday
Jul. 2

to
Sunday
Jul. 4
Join us at Eastern Tandem Rally 2010 in Saratoga Springs, NY, a resort community located 30 miles north of Albany on I-87. It is a wonderful area to bicycle with rural roads, generally flat to rolling through small towns and farmland areas. Our rides will take us along the edge of the Adirondack State Park, past Saratoga Lake and to the Saratoga Revolutionary War Battlefield southern edge of the Adirondack Park wilderness area offering high peaks hiking, canoeing and fishing. Lake George is also nearby.

(2nd Annual) Garden Tour
Saturday
Jul. 17
Join the DOGS for this year's Garden Tour. So far there is one participating garden in Hunterdon; we will combine the visit there with a scenic ride starting in Califon.

Woodlove-Lainie & John Beavin's Garden "Our garden, predominantly shade with native and naturalized wildflowers and bulbs, consists of a series of garden rooms and woodland paths over six acres enclosed in a double deer fence. It was created from a woodland over a thirty-five-year period while building our stone house. Like all gardens, it is still in progress. There are perennial gardens, fern, hosta, clethra, and daylily collections, inviting benches, a pergola, an attached greenhouse, a tiny frog pond, and garden steps between levels. In 2004, Ivan the Terrible flooded through the property. To remedy this, there is now a 150-foot stream with a waterfall to carry the run-off terminating in a frog pond. Please stop for light refreshment on the breezeway." (Taken from The Garden Conservancy website) There is a small admission fee.

Steady rain cancels the ride and Garden Tour on Saturday, but we will do the just the ride on Sunday if the weather is good.

Dave's Annual HOT Ride and COOL Pool Party
Saturday
Jul. 31
Join the DOGS on this Lughnasadh celebration (look it up) ride as we travel through some of the most strikingly scenic and lightly traveled roads of Hunterdon County, just touching on parts of Somerset County. We have 3 ride options, all of them starting off together; then splitting into 20, 32, and 41 mile routes at the general store in the village of Oldwick. The longer route will head south, crossing Route 22 and passes Solberg Airport, while the short route continues back to Califon. The featured 32 mile route captures all of the scenic beauty of the longer ride without the flatter extension south of Route 22. All routes will return on riparian Rockaway Road to Mountainville, then continue to ascend alongside the Rockaway Creek to the top of CR-512, ending in a speedy descent down into Califon and back to the ride start. These rides all have several steep climbs. Bring your granny gear and be ready to jump in the cool pool at the finish.
Time Bagels and coffee at 8:45. Ride starts at 9:30 AM.
Location Dave's house, 31 School St., Califon, NJ
Distance 32 miles, with shorter (20 miles) and longer (41 miles) options
Terrain Hilly to rolling with flatter added terrain on the long ride.
Refreshments Sandwich ingredients (turkey, cheese, rolls, almond, sunflower, and peanut butters), soft drinks. Feel free to bring an appetizer, side dish, or dessert to share.
