Dave's Annual HOT Ride and COOL Pool Party
Saturday
Aug. 9
This year's riparian ramble has been revised with a couple of new roads but with the same amount of mileage as last year's ride. We will be climbing out of Califon as usual; but instead of heading towards Morris county, we will stay in Hunterdon, climbing and descending on beautiful, lightly-traveled country roads, with an intermediate stop at the Oldwick General Store. After that, the route will split into 32 and 20 mile options. The longer ride will head south towards Whitehouse on more rolling terrain while the short route will continue back towards Califon. All routes will return on riparian Rockaway Road to Mountainville, then continue to ascend through scenic terrain back to the top of CR-512, ending in a long, glorious descent down into Califon and back to the ride start.

This ride has hills. Bring your granny gear and be ready to jump in the cool pool at the finish.

Time Ride starts at 9:30 AM. Bagels and coffee at 8:45.
Location Dave's house, 31 School St., Califon, NJ
Distance 32 miles and 20 miles (A 46 mile option is available for mileage junkies. You know who you are.)
Terrain Both rides are hilly to rolling.

The scenery and bucolic roads are among the best available in New Jersey. The longer routes all head into Morris County NJ, with the Century turnaround point in Chester, a quaint town of boutique shops. These routes take riders into the Wildcat Ridge Wildlife Management Area (Splitrock Reservoir) as well as into the greenery along miles of the Black River Wildlife Management Area.

And for the rider who wants a real test, the double metric goes over Schooleys Mountain, with one very tough climb, a ride along the ridge. and a rewarding downhill, for another 25 miles of great scenery -- and challenge.
